Overview
A critical challenge faced by community health centers
and their employees is the ability to attract and retain
highly effective clinicians who are committed to practice
in medically underserved communities. A powerful recruitment
and retention strategy is to deliver comprehensive orientation
of the practice site/environment while providing ample opportunities
for professional networking with colleagues in similar settings.
The MidWest Clinicians Network is working on building a
mentoring program that would incorporate 3 levels of mentoring:
1) links to helpful documentation, 2) a face to face mentoring
program for medical/clinical directors, and 3) a web-based
tool that would allow clinicians to get orientation on many
topics.

Face-to-Face Medical Director Mentoring Program
Southern Ohio Health Sesrvices Network (SOHSN) began offering
the Medical Director Mentoring Program in 2002. Since that
time, SOHSN ahs helped train Medical Directors to prepare
them for their roles as Community Health Center Leaders.
There are many excellent management programs available throughout
the market, but this program focuses on the specific needs
of the physician or nurse executive in the community health
center system. It offers a unique opportunity to learn in
a hands-on environment from professionals within the field.
